Kampala Metropolitan Police South has recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle and arrested three suspects following a targeted intelligence-led operation, in a move that highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle organised motorcycle theft networks in the city.
The operation, conducted on July 1, 2026, was triggered by credible intelligence indicating that a motorcycle stolen from Freedom City in Namasuba was being transported for sale.
Officers from Katwe Police Division swiftly acted on the tip-off, leading to the arrest of the first suspect, Mukasa Dan.
According to police, Mukasa confessed during interrogation that he had stolen the motorcycle with the help of an accomplice, Kimera Ali.
He further revealed that the motorcycle had been moved to a parking yard in Kikajjo Parish.
Acting on this information, police extended the operation to Kikajjo, where a second suspect, Kabugo Charles, was arrested while in possession of the motorcycle.
Kabugo reportedly told investigators that he had been sent by Kimera Ali to collect the bike.
The operation culminated in the arrest of the alleged mastermind, Kimera Ali, who was tracked down and apprehended at Wansanso Garage Hub.
Police recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEQ 405F, believed to have been stolen from Namasuba.
The three suspects are currently detained at Katwe Police Division and have been formally charged as investigations continue.
Preliminary findings suggest that Mukasa Dan is a suspected serial offender with links to multiple motorcycle theft incidents reported in Bombo, Kaweweta, Namayingo, and Namasuba.
Police records further indicate that he previously served a six-year sentence at Murchison Bay Prison for similar crimes.
Investigators also believe that stolen motorcycles were being channelled through Kimera Ali for resale, pointing to a coordinated network behind the thefts.
Police say operations are ongoing, with officers revisiting crime scenes and pursuing additional suspects who may be connected to the syndicate.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrests and recovery, reiterating the force’s commitment to tackling rising cases of motorcycle theft across the region.
