Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced the gradual reopening of its media outlets in Uganda, weeks after a dramatic shutdown that halted broadcasting and publishing across its platforms.
In a statement dated July 28, 2026, Nation Media Group confirmed that its television, radio, print, and digital services will return in phases as operational arrangements are finalized.
The announcement signals a major turnaround following one of the most significant media disruptions in the region this year.
“Our services across television, print, radio and digital will be restored progressively as we complete the necessary operational arrangements,” the company said, indicating that audiences should expect a staggered return rather than an immediate full resumption.
The media giant also acknowledged the disruption caused by the shutdown, thanking its audiences, clients, and partners for their patience during the period of uncertainty.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding shown… and your continued trust and confidence in our brands,” the statement added.
NMG further emphasized its editorial direction as it resumes operations, stating that its focus remains on delivering “trusted and balanced journalism” across all platforms.
The commitment comes amid heightened scrutiny of media freedom in Uganda following the earlier closure of its outlets.
The reopening follows weeks of negotiations and operational adjustments after security agencies ordered the shutdown of major NMG platforms, including NTV Uganda and Daily Monitor.
The closure had drawn concern from regional observers and press freedom advocates, who warned about its implications for independent journalism.
