Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has raised fresh concerns over the whereabouts of National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy president for Buganda, Muwanga Kivumbi, alleging he was abducted shortly after being released on bail.

In a social media statement, Bobi Wine described Kivumbi as a “distinguished leader and economist” and accused security agencies of targeting him following the disputed 2026 general election.

According to the NUP leader, violence first struck Kivumbi’s home in Butambala on the night after the election, when military officers allegedly opened fire, killing at least 10 people within his compound.

Bobi Wine claimed that instead of pursuing those responsible for the killings, authorities arrested Kivumbi and several of his campaign team members in January, accusing them of terrorism.

“They’ve all been in detention until the 9th of this month when the High Court granted them bail,” he said.

However, the opposition leader alleges that Kivumbi’s release was short-lived.

He claims that on July 10, the former legislator was intercepted at a police checkpoint by heavily armed men in civilian clothing.

“He was violently abducted by non-uniformed, heavily armed men moving in a drone and driven at breakneck speed to an unknown destination,” Bobi Wine stated.

The NUP leader further claimed that Kivumbi has now been missing for 13 days, with no official communication from security agencies regarding his whereabouts or condition.

He expressed fears that the opposition figure could have been subjected to torture.

“For 13 days now, nobody knows where Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi is. Nobody knows whether he is dead or alive,” he added.

Bobi Wine has called on Ugandans and the international community to demand answers from President Yoweri Museveni’s government, framing the incident as part of a broader pattern of repression against opposition figures.
