President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated his grandson, Ruhamya, following his graduation from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, describing military service as an important foundation for young people.
In a message addressed to Ugandans, particularly the younger generation he referred to as “Bazzukulu,” Museveni thanked God for what he described as continued protection and guidance for Uganda as the country addresses its challenges.
The President also extended his appreciation to God for blessing the National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying the political organisation and its predecessors have existed for more than six decades.
Museveni’s message centred on the graduation of Ruhamya and his colleague, Bakyira, from Sandhurst, one of the world’s best-known military training institutions.
“Now, God has blessed me with one of my grandchildren, Ruhamya, joining my big family of UPDF, having graduated, with his colleague, Bakyira, from Sandhurst recently,” Museveni said.
He congratulated both young officers on completing their military training and commended their parents for supporting them through the process.
“Congratulations Ruhamya, congratulations Bakyira,” he added.
Museveni further encouraged young Ugandans to consider army service, arguing that military training can provide a strong foundation for personal development and professional discipline.
“Young Ugandans, Army service gives you good foundation,” the President said.
Ruhamya’s graduation adds a personal dimension to Museveni’s long-standing association with Uganda’s military and the UPDF, which has played a central role in his administration since the NRM came to power in 1986.
The President has frequently addressed young Ugandans in his public messages, urging them to acquire skills and participate in national development.
His latest message combined a personal celebration of his grandson’s achievement with broader reflections on Uganda’s political history and the role of the military in shaping the country’s younger generation.
The graduation at Sandhurst marks a significant milestone for Ruhamya and Bakyira as they begin their careers as military officers.
