NBS Journalist Samson Kasumba has paid tribute to Next Media Chief Executive Officer Kin Kariisa as the media executive marked his 50th birthday, reflecting on the professional relationship that has shaped his career since 2016.

Kasumba, who is associated with NBS Television, described himself as a complex professional who values independence and freedom of expression in the workplace. He said that before joining NBS, he had never remained in formal employment for more than three years.

According to Kasumba, his encounter with Kariisa in 2016 marked a turning point in both his career and outlook on life.

“I am incredibly grateful that our paths crossed when they did and so did our values,” Kasumba said in his birthday message to Kariisa.

He credited Kariisa with creating an environment that allowed him to work with greater freedom while remaining aligned with his professional values.

Kasumba also used the occasion to celebrate what he described as the culture fostered at Next Media, urging Kariisa to embrace the milestone with appreciation rather than regret.

“Here, we do not regret. We just appreciate being alive, celebrate each milestone. We enjoy more and stress less,” he said.

The journalist further highlighted the importance of legacy, saying the organisation’s focus extends beyond immediate achievements to how its people will be remembered.

Kasumba told Kariisa that many members of the Next Media team were striving to embody qualities he associated with the CEO.

“Most of who you are is what many on this floor are trying to be about,” he said.

Kariisa’s 50th birthday comes as Next Media continues to maintain a prominent position in Uganda’s media industry, with NBS Television among its key platforms.

Kasumba’s message highlighted not only their professional association but also the personal influence Kariisa has had on his approach to work and life.

He concluded his tribute by warmly welcoming Kariisa to what he called the “fifth floor”, symbolising the new chapter that comes with reaching 50.
