Businessman Dr Tugume Nelson has endorsed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s political leadership, saying Uganda needs a new approach to governance capable of creating confidence among investors and expanding economic opportunities for young people.
Tugume made the remarks after visiting the offices of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), where he described the occasion as an important moment in Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
In a statement, the businessman expressed support for Kainerugaba, whom he referred to as Uganda’s “Generational Leader,” arguing that the country’s political direction would have a direct impact on its economic prospects.
“For me, this is bigger than politics. It is about the Uganda superstructure leadership that will change and transform the lives of our people,” Tugume said.
He argued that political stability and effective governance are important factors in attracting and retaining investment, noting that investors require an environment where businesses can operate with confidence and predictability.
“Investment follows confidence,” he said, stressing that investors need assurances that their businesses, employees and assets can operate in conditions defined by peace, stability, good governance and predictability.
Tugume said Uganda has several advantages that could position it as a major investment destination, including its youthful population, strategic geographical location and growing economy.
He also pointed to opportunities across different sectors, saying the country must protect its economic potential by strengthening governance and creating conditions that allow businesses to expand.
According to the businessman, a favourable investment environment would also contribute to employment creation and provide young Ugandans with opportunities to turn innovative ideas into businesses.
“We must protect that potential by strengthening good governance and creating an environment where businesses can grow, jobs can be created and young Ugandans can turn their ideas into enterprises,” he said.
Tugume further expressed confidence in Kainerugaba’s ability to provide the leadership he believes Uganda requires, declaring that the general is “unstoppable.”
Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, has increasingly featured in Uganda’s political discourse through his public statements and activities associated with the PLU.
The PLU has emerged as a political platform associated with Kainerugaba and his supporters, although Uganda’s political landscape remains contested ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Tugume’s endorsement adds to the public expressions of support surrounding Kainerugaba, with the businessman framing his backing around governance, investment, economic growth and opportunities for Uganda’s young population.
