Buganda Kingdom has renewed its partnership with telecommunications company Airtel for another three years, with Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga saying the agreement will continue supporting programmes targeting communities across the kingdom.

Mayiga announced the renewal of the partnership for the 2026-2028 period, highlighting Airtel’s contribution to initiatives focused on health, HIV/AIDS awareness, sports and community activities.

Speaking after the agreement was reaffirmed, Mayiga said partnerships require continued commitment from both sides to deliver lasting benefits.

“Partnerships, like marriages, must be nurtured, strengthened and invested in to bear lasting fruit,” he said.

The renewed partnership will support several Buganda Kingdom initiatives, including programmes aimed at improving health services and fighting HIV/AIDS.

It will also cover major cultural and sporting events associated with the kingdom, among them the Kabaka Birthday Run, Masaza Cup and Bika Cup.

Ramadhan activities will also form part of the initiatives supported under the partnership.

Mayiga welcomed Airtel’s decision to continue working with the kingdom, saying the company’s commitment demonstrated confidence in Buganda and its programmes.

“I commend Airtel for its continued confidence in the Kingdom of Buganda,” Mayiga said.

He called on people in Buganda to embrace partnerships that contribute to the development and wellbeing of communities.

Mayiga said collaboration between institutions, businesses and communities remains important in supporting programmes that address social and economic needs.

The Kabaka Birthday Run has in recent years been used to raise awareness and funds for health-related causes, while the Masaza Cup and Bika Cup provide platforms for sporting competition and community engagement across Buganda.

The latest agreement extends the relationship between Buganda Kingdom and Airtel as both sides seek to build on previous initiatives.

Mayiga expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would produce further benefits during the three-year period.

“We look forward to another fruitful chapter of this partnership,” he said.

The agreement comes as Buganda Kingdom continues to work with private-sector partners on programmes aimed at supporting communities across its traditional areas.

Airtel’s continued involvement is expected to provide support for the kingdom’s social, health, cultural and sporting activities through 2028.
