Speaker of Parliament, Oboth Oboth, has called on citizens to embrace hard work and contribute to national development following the 28th National Prayer Breakfast held at State House in Entebbe.

Oboth, who served as the chief host of the event, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni for hosting the gathering, which brought together Ugandan leaders and foreign delegations both physically and virtually.

In a statement following the event, the Speaker highlighted the importance of prayer and spiritual guidance in the country’s affairs, particularly praising the First Lady for her continued commitment to praying for Uganda.

“I am deeply grateful to H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, for hosting us and for gracing the occasion, with the President as Chief Guest,” Oboth said.

He also acknowledged Janet Museveni’s role in providing spiritual mentorship, describing her as a dedicated prayer warrior and intercessor who continues to pray for the country.

The Speaker specifically thanked the First Lady for her ministry of prayer and mentorship, expressing gratitude to God for giving her what he described as a second chance.

“I thanked him, and Maama in particular, for her ministry of prayer and mentorship. We thank God for giving her a second chance,” he stated.

Oboth noted that the First Lady’s continued commitment to prayer remained a source of reassurance, adding that she continued to intercede for the nation.

“Maama has been a prayer warrior and an intercessor for our nation. It is reassuring to know that she remains on her knees, lifting Uganda before God,” he added.

The 28th National Prayer Breakfast provided a platform for leaders and participants to reflect on faith, leadership and the country's future.

Oboth framed the gathering as a wake-up call for Ugandans to work harder and participate in building the nation, emphasising the need to translate shared values into practical contributions to national progress.

The event brought together political leaders and international participants at a time when Uganda continues to pursue economic growth and development.

The Speaker's message placed renewed emphasis on the connection between spiritual reflection, personal responsibility and the collective effort required to build Uganda.
