The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has accused the Ugandan government of escalating political intimidation after security forces sealed off its headquarters in Katonga on Friday morning.

In a statement, the party said personnel from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and police deployed heavily around the premises, blocking all entrances and exits.

Armed officers were reportedly stationed at key access points, effectively restricting movement in and out of the offices.

The development comes against the backdrop of heightened political activity and growing friction between the state and opposition actors.

While authorities had not immediately issued an official explanation for the operation, the PFF described the move as part of a broader pattern targeting dissenting voices.

“These actions suggest a government that is increasingly driven by fear rather than confidence,” the party said in its statement, adding that security crackdowns would not suppress public demand for political reforms.

The PFF further linked the incident to what it termed ongoing efforts to weaken opposition leadership through arrests and detention.

“Arresting or detaining opposition leaders does not erase the aspirations of millions of Ugandans who seek political change,” the statement read.

Referencing prominent opposition figures, the party argued that Uganda’s political future transcends individual leaders.

“Whether Dr. Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago, or other opposition leaders are free or imprisoned, the desire for justice, accountability, and democratic governance cannot be imprisoned,” the statement added.

The party maintained that attempts to silence critics through force would ultimately be ineffective.

“Even if the regime believes it can silence individuals through arrests or intimidation, it cannot indefinitely silence an entire nation,” the PFF said, urging citizens to pursue peaceful collective action.
