Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake has joined leaders across Uganda in mourning the victims of the tragic road accident involving pupils of King David Junior School, describing the incident as deeply heartbreaking.
In a message shared following the Kapchorwa crash that claimed the lives of more than 20 pupils and a school official, Zaake expressed sympathy for the affected families and the wider school community.
“My heart breaks for the children, parents, teachers and the entire King David Junior School family,” he said, capturing the grief that has gripped the nation.
The accident occurred on the evening of July 16 in Chekwatit Village, Kapchorwa District, as the pupils were returning from an educational trip to Sipi Falls.
Preliminary reports indicate the school bus lost control along a steep section of the road before overturning, leaving dozens injured and several others in critical condition.
Zaake extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones while also offering prayers for survivors battling injuries in various hospitals.
“May God receive the souls of the departed, heal the injured, comfort every grieving family and give them strength through this unimaginable pain,” he added.
The legislator further urged the public to stand in solidarity with the affected families during this period of mourning.
He called on Ugandans to keep the victims in their prayers.
The tragedy has sparked renewed debate over the safety of school transport and the regulation of educational trips in Uganda. Authorities have since suspended school excursions as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue.
