Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga has urged Ugandans to approach their work as an opportunity to create lasting impact and preserve experiences that can benefit future generations.
Mayiga made the remarks after receiving Abu Mwesigwa, the official photographer to President Yoweri Museveni, who presented him with his book, Moments with Mzee. The publication documents Mwesigwa’s experiences, photographs and memories gathered during his work with the President.
In a statement, Mayiga commended Mwesigwa for taking steps to document his experiences, saying such efforts help preserve important records for present and future generations.
He said documenting personal and professional experiences provides an opportunity for society to retain valuable accounts that could otherwise be lost over time.
Mayiga also challenged workers to look beyond their salaries and consider the broader impact of their careers and daily responsibilities.
“Our work should go beyond earning a salary; it should create an impact on those around us and leave a legacy that others can learn from,” Mayiga said.
He linked the message to the Buganda Kingdom’s Situla Omutindo programme, which promotes professionalism, excellence, intentionality and continuous improvement in the workplace.
According to Mayiga, the programme encourages individuals to approach their responsibilities with purpose while continuously seeking ways to improve their performance and contribute positively to society.
The Prime Minister congratulated Mwesigwa and his colleagues for contributing to the preservation of Uganda’s history through photography and documentation.
He further encouraged them to maintain high professional standards and continue producing work that can have lasting value.
Mwesigwa’s book offers a photographic account of his work alongside President Museveni, capturing moments from his professional experiences and providing a record of events and personalities encountered during his service.
Mayiga’s remarks come amid growing calls for the preservation of Uganda’s historical and institutional records, particularly through personal accounts, photography and other forms of documentation.
By highlighting Mwesigwa’s publication, Mayiga stressed that professional work can serve a purpose beyond immediate employment, contributing to the historical record and providing lessons for future generations.
The engagement also underscored the Buganda Kingdom’s emphasis on professionalism and excellence as key principles in personal development and public service.
